It seems like no matter what genre you can think of it flows into or is connected to another somehow... Any other thoughts on this?Is there a clear line between rock/metal genres?
You're on target correct in how music from one genre evolved into another---yet direct comparisons to pure examples of these genres are starkly different.
Hard as it is to believe, jazz fused off into facets of Swing, Big Band, Chicago Blues, Dixieland and Delta Blues. Add a hint of fast paced Gospel into the mix....and you have an explosion of the early Doo-Wop that got coined ';Rock And Roll';......and even THAT got splintered off into what became known (largely from this rockin' white boy from Tupelo named Elvis) as ';Rockabilly';.
Then someone playing around w/ a blues tuned electric guitar went Picasso and......wham!! Enter the 60's psychedelic scene. Ever notice how lame it began at the decade's beginning.....and how the amped drives got cranked up by 1970, then went into ';mellow folk'; mode?? However, by 1977, Rock experienced a renaissance of all sorts of textures and unique sounds that made each band stand out on their own merit.
Still, someone kept experimenting w/ those guitar pickups, strings.....and amped drives.
Enter Heavy Metal: Founded by Black Sabbath/ Ozzy, Dio, Judas Priest. I think we saw some red flags when metal went ';Wayne's World / Big Hair'; ( Warrant, Poison, Great White).
And why did someone promote those punked out, meth-high kids from Seattle and splash the scene w/ ';grunge';---which sadly, fungus grew into ';alternative';----which brazenly has DEvolved into junk that holds no merit.
The Rock gods left the music into the hands of kids who have failed us all.Is there a clear line between rock/metal genres?
I am not really sure about clear lines. What I do know is in this section of YA there definately are NO lines. Considering the fact there are questions anywhere from the Jonas Bros to Led Zeppelin.
I imagine this is a question where no answer can truly come out correct.
Another thing I have noticed is that people, the music industry or maybe the media have come out with so many different labels or names for different kinds of rock I don't have a clue of what's what anymore myself. All I know is if I like what I hear, I don't give a damn what it's called.
I dont think a name matters too much! I think there is a slight difference between hard rock and heavy metal but basically its an image marketing thing.Just keep rocking and enjoy what you like mate!!
Each genre is metal, yes but different guitar styles/ideologies and a certain mind frame distinguishes a genre of music.
yes metal just usually has lower tuned and faster guitars and heavy vocals
