And also, what happens when they pierce you tongue [what are the steps]?
Also do you have any advice for me..?Tongue Piercing [Metal or Clear]?
When it is first pierced they will put a longer, implant grade steel barbell in your tongue. Something clear would be acrylic (in most cases) and very bad for a fresh piercing.
So yes, you will need to wait until the entire healing process is over before putting in new jewerly. (at least 4 weeks)
What to expect: When you are ready to get it pierced, your piercer will have you rinse your mouth out with a rinse to clean your mouth.
They will prepare thier tools, and put on clean gloves. Then, they will have you stick out your tongue and examine it to be sure it is capable of being pierced. They will mark it with a dot to ensure placement. They will change thier gloves, have you stick your tongue out again, and clamp it with forceps. The clamps almost always hurt more than the actually piercing. They will pinch. That is normal. They will open the sterile needle in front of you, and place a cork under your tongue, (to catch the needle) and push the needle in from the top. It is quick, and relatively painless. The barbell is slid into the tip of the needle, and fed through your tongue, while pushing the needle out. They screw the ball on the end, and it's done. You will then rinse your mouth out again. That's the process in a nutshell.
Afterwards, your tongue will swell, some more than others. That is why the bar they pierce it with is so long, to allow room for swelling to reduce pressure and irritation. The swelling usually only lasts 3 or 4 days. And it is very important to take good care of your new piercing. Your piercer will provide you with aftercare instrcutions, and tell you when to come back in, so they can switch the bar to a smaller one that fits better when the swelling has subsided. It is important to try your best to avoid irritating the piercing in the early healing stage. Try not to talk too much, and chew very carefully. After smoking, eating or drinking, rinse your mouth out with alcohol free mouth wash, or warm sea salt solution. Avoid tongue-kissing and oral sex as well, for the next 10-14 days. Do your best to keep unwanted bacteria out of your mouth to avoid infection. My other advice is to avoid playing with it too much in your mouth, both before and after it is healed. Clicking the metal against your teeth and such, can wear enamel off your teeth and give your teeth some serious damage. If you have a habit of doing that, then once it is healed you should look into acrylic jewelry to reduce the risk of oral complications. Keep it clean, and do your homework! It's a great piercing, but it's important to know your facts when you get a piercing. Here are some links to more good info.

When I had mine pierced, they put a metal one in. After the swelling goes down, you will need a shorter one, so a plastic one would probably be okay. The process is pretty simple....they pull your tongue out, hold it with a pair of forceps and stick a spike through it. A little bit of advice that worked great for me and my daughter was to take 4 advil right before the piercing and suck or chew on ice for two hours afterward. We did this and ate steak dinners that evening! Hardly any swelling at al. You may hear people say rinse with listerine, but don't....it will kill the helpful bacteria in your mouth and you will get thrush. Warm sea-salt water will do fine.
They use the silver one. You can use the plastic after it heels.
First they tell you to mouthwash, then they clamp your tongue with this tong thing and then they stick the needle through and slide the ring in as they pull the needle back out. Then they screw the ring and you're done. Advice.. maybe.. don't eat before? Haha.
well they put a metal one it you wont be able to eat the first day mabye soup eat lots of ice use mouth wash and your tongue is gunna swell up and ull hardly be able to talk hey drink beer it brings down the swelling haha
theyll put a little metal stud in there, after a week or whatever you will be able to put the fancy stuff in.
