hey guys so im about to get retainers in a few days.
and i was wondering which one is easier and harder to talk in?Is it harder to talk in metal or clear retainers?
They both the sameIs it harder to talk in metal or clear retainers?
Hmm. I don't think so. I am guessing you mean the essix ';invisalign'; type or the traditional wire and acrylic hawley.
i've had both. First, let me say that you really won't have a long-term problem speaking with either type. Yes, you may start to lisp at first, but that SHOULD go away within a few days! Of course, some retainers have more acrylic build-up an dare more in the way of your tongue, and others are less intrusive and easyer to talk around. It does depend partly on that, but really very few people have long term trouble with them I think.
I've been wearing a hawley (';metal'; as you say) 24/7 for allmost a year now, and it's not bad. I actually lisp *without* my retainer, because I am missing a tooth that the retainer replaces and makes it easyer to talk.
But overall, the essix may be easyer just cause there is nothing on your palate to get in the way of your tongue. your teeth will feel ';larger'; cause they are being covered up by plastic, but that doesn't really interfear with talking, at least I didn't think so. They did make my mouth dryer than the hawley, I constanly needed to swish water even if I wasn't thirsty, it was kinda silly.
Anyway good luck and wear your retainers!
I think harder in clear retainers as your teeth don't come together quite as well.
