Clear braces take a lot longer! If you want your braces off fast go for the metal! they work the best. We had a patient in our office that had clear and it was taking so long for her teeth to move we removed those and put metal brackets and she got them off two appointments later!How much slower do ceramic/clear braces work compared to metal braces?
it shouldn't be much. It's not going to add a year onto treatment or anything, but the ceramic/plastic/clear typically causes more friction which means the wire doesn't glide as easily through the bracket slot as it would with metal .They have clear self-ligating brackets that don't make any difference at all.
I wanted those sooo bad, at my orthodontist they didn't mention a longer time of wearing them, but they are much more expensive! and if your teeth are gaped there is usually problems with the bite, so trust me thats not all they are fixing. if you decide to get the metal kind, dont get them in bright colors, it just makes braces even uglier.
Difference in performance is insignificant, while prices are definitely high.
