Metal retainer or clear plastic retainer?

i got my braces off yesterday and today i got a plastic retainer with a wire that pushes agaisnt my teeth. it slurs my speach and its ugly to see the wire when i talk. my tounge feels cramed in agaist the upper and lower retainers. i got home and i found that there is a clear plastic retainer that fits to your teeth and i was wondering if those would be better. should a stay with the retainer i have now or look into geting a clear plastic reatiner? and are all orthodists able to give you these?Metal retainer or clear plastic retainer?
Eventually your mouth, teeth, cheeks and tongue will all get use to your retainer. So I wouldn't worry about any weird crammed feelings. As soon as your mouth gets use to it, your speech will be back to normal. As far as a clear retainer, you probably only have to wear the wire one for a little until they make you only wear it at night. So if you want to spend the money on a clear one, and if it really is a big deal to you then ask your ortho about it.Metal retainer or clear plastic retainer?
The speech slurring thing will get better slowly as your tongue gets used to manuvering around your retainer. It just takes time and patience.





As fir the plastic fitted one - talk to your ortho. I know not all of them can do them, but let him know that you'd like to look into it. It depends largely on what needs to be done with your teeth. My friend had the fitted kind, and it slurred her speech too; there's no easy way to escape it.





Talk to your parents too, if they're like mine they may have opted for the average uncomfortable one for financial reasons. With the fitted ones, you need to go through stages sometimes.
the plastic retainers are the same when it comes to how annoying they are. But its basically up to you. The metal ones are more uncomfortable to talk.. but you get used to it after a while. i dont think all orthodontists offer them, so you have to ask yours good luck =]
i have a bottom perminate retainer thats metal and i used to have a top plastic retainer also i hated the plastic one but i like the metal one because its on the inside of my mouth and its more comfortable ask your ortho for a perminate one they would be happy to give u one hope this helps
