HELP! I am getting my braces off in two weeks and I am getting a permanent retainer on the bottom. I just cannot decide whether to get a clear plastic retainer or the one with the metal bar across the front for my top teeth. What do you have and why do you like/dislike it? Does the clear one discolor?Should I get a clear or metal retainer??? What are pros and cons of each?
One good thing about the clear plastic retainer is the fact that there are no metal bars in your teeth (the advantage is really just for aesthetic purposes). But i recommend the retainers with the metal bars because if you forget to wear your retainers your teeth will shift and your retainers won't be able to fit you anymore and you have to get new ones which is very expensive. If you wear the retainers with the metal bars, the dentist would be able to at least adjust the metal parts so that it can fit you, but they won't be able to adjust the clear plastic retainers.
